Speciality
In the realm of education reform, students' self-study abilities, comprehension abilities and social abilities are the focus. Uncle Lee maintains the idea that students, teachers and parents have to work together to effectively face challenges in education. The new era of education aims to cultivate students to adapt to modernization and develop self-learning abilities ready for lifelong learning. This way, they are armed to keep up with this rapidly booming technological age and new skill demands. Compared to teachers and students, parents tend to fall behind in the educational reform movement. As such, they should be making active attempts to re-educate themselves and join the team.
In the course of teaching, Uncle Lee uses his own unique teaching methods to interact with students. His primary skill is discovering the root cause of learning difficulties of students followed by guidance, patience and persuasion. He can quickly attract the interest of students to adhere to his learning methods. He achieves this by ensuring that students can see the direction of their efforts, building up their confidence and developing their self-understanding.
Gradually, Uncle Lee's students develop more effective thinking methods in their study and learn how to explore new knowledge theories. In the process, they begin to enjoy the process and become more proactive in their own studies.
Uncle Lee believes that students' psychological qualities and emotions have a great influence on their study. In his teaching practice, he always ensures he is taking care of each student's psychological issues and their personality development.
Uncle Lee's strength is combining knowledge education with psychological training. In his practice, he runs educational psychological counseling to help parents and students solve their study problems.
In some cases, students arrive at the first lesson slightly nervous (and sometimes with a long face), as the class was arranged by their parents. However, after just one hour of tutoring with Uncle Lee, they often leave the session happy and relaxed, with a brightened mood and a genuine smile. Parents have been delighted to find that their children's interest in learning has peaked, resulting in improved family relationships too. This is further evident by parents asking their second or third child to be tutored by Uncle Lee as well. Uncle Lee has watched his students turn their own minds to their university entrance examination results and set their own goals. Looking to the future and feeling confident, Uncle Lee's students tend to lead within their year cohorts.
One particular student of Uncle Lee's was maintaining strong marks in primary school and received a scholarship in a prestigious private school in Sydney. However, after entering middle school, his mathematics grades were gradually dropping. By year 10, he had moved to the slowest class in the whole grade. As a result, he was not allowed to choose Advanced Mathematics for HSC (the university entry exam of NSW Australia). His parents were very anxious about it and he did not know how to catch up quickly, causing him to feel depressed and antisocial, with no motivation to do homework. He constantly demonstrated a bad mood to his parents, who became very worried, and asked Uncle Lee to help. At first, the student did not believe that he could bring himself to his desired state in such a short time period, and did not want to come see Uncle Lee, but his parents just asked him just to try one session. After the first try, he requested to come a second time, a third time and so on. Gradually, he became interested in mathematics, and his parents said he no longer played video games in his spare time, instead volunteering to help do some domestic duties. After two months of tuition, he passed his exam and was promoted into the Advanced Mathematics class. He finally achieved all his desired goals and his parents were very relieved.
There are many cases like this. When Uncle Lee asks parents how his students are tracking at school, parents are always with full of gratitude and smiles, saying that Uncle Lee not only helped their children, but saved a family.
The following was a comment from an IB student of IB Camp of Suzhou (China) in December 2017:
In class, generally, Uncle Lee will explain the concept first. He will create few simple practice questions reflecting the concept, and then will explain how it applies to past paper questions. There is no need to cram questions. Although this method of explanation sounds very simple, it actually has a magical effect.
For me, the most notable memory was when Uncle Lee wrote down derived formulae on a normal formulae sheet. I remember looking at this new derived formulae and realising how much clearer the concept seemed. I understood it so quickly, which was such a new feeling for me. There was a chapter I had not learnt yet, but with only a 10-minute explanation and some practice questions with Uncle Lee, I totally understood the concepts of that chapter with Uncle Lee’s formula transformation. When doing exam questions, all the students at camp were using his methods and could solve questions much faster (and much more correctly). Understanding those formula transformations is as magical as "the whole body meridian treatment".
