The IB Math Exploration is a written report that all students taking HL or SL level Mathematics need to complete. Each student selects an area of Mathematics he/she is interested in, investigates and develops the selected area and submits a report to IB.
As the Math Exploration has only been recently added to the IB Math syllabus, many students do not know how to approach it.
Here are 5 tips to help you jump start your IB Math Exploration.
1. Choose a topic you are excited about.
As you will be spending quite a bit of time on your Math Exploration, be sure to pick a topic you are interested in.
2. Organise your ideas for your Math Exploration and include all of the following:
3. Ensure personal engagement is demonstrated throughout the exploration. Personal engagement is demonstrated when you present the ideas in your own perspective, identifying the challenges faced along the way and Mathematical concepts you learned.
4. Use graphs, tables and diagrams to present your ideas. It is encouraged to use a variety of graphs, tables and diagrams to present data in a visually pleasing way.
5. Ensure the level of Mathematics is appropriate for the level of the course. The level of Mathematics in the Math Exploration should be part of the syllabus, at a similar level or beyond.
